Released on January 24, 1995, by Tuff Break Records, the album showcases Str8-G’s talent in the gangsta hip-hop genre. With 14 tracks that highlight his lyrical prowess and storytelling abilities, the album is a testament to the rapper’s contribution to the hip-hop scene in the mid-90s.

The album kicks off with a captivating “Intro” followed by the title track “Shadow Of A G,” which sets the tone for the rest of the record. Other notable tracks include “Bring The Funk,” “Pussy Today,” “Wild Trip,” “Drama,” and “Everything’s Fine (In The Summertime).” The album also features remixes of “Bring The Funk” by DJ Quik and an extended remix of “Shadow.”

“Shadow Of A G” benefits from collaborations with several producers and additional vocalists, including Tragedy, Dazzie Dee, Rashad Coes, and Monica Calhoun, among others. The album was recorded and engineered at various studios, such as Power Play Studios, 7th Street Sound, A&M Studios, Echo Sound, 38 Fresh, and Cochrane Studios. It was mastered at A&M Mastering Studios.

The album’s artwork was designed at Roque Graphics, with art direction by Jason Clark and photography by Tracy Lamonica. Str8-G’s “Shadow Of A G” stands as a notable entry in the gangsta hip-hop genre, reflecting the rapper’s unique style and impact on the scene.
