Description
“909 Boyz” is the self-titled debut EP by the rap group hailing from Inland Empire, California. Released in 1997 by Poker Productions exclusively on cassette tape, this project showcases the group’s unique blend of gangsta rap and G-funk. The EP features four tracks, each capturing the essence of the late ’90s West Coast hip-hop sound.
Side A of the cassette kicks off with “This Is How We Kick It,” a catchy tune that immediately sets the tone for the EP. The following track, “Far East I.E.,” highlights the group’s regional pride, representing their Inland Empire roots.
Side B features a remix of “This Is How We Kick It,” which adds a fresh spin to the original track while maintaining its infectious vibe. Rounding out the EP is an instrumental version of “Far East I.E.,” allowing listeners to appreciate the group’s production skills and the underlying beats that drive their music.
The 909 Boyz, consisting of E. Kincey, O. Matthews, R. Falls, and M. Best, co-wrote and performed all tracks on the EP. With Emil Kincey serving as executive producer, the project was produced, mixed, and engineered by Curtis J2B Watts. Jim “mac-daddy” Hahn mastered the EP, which was recorded at Intelligent Mixx Studio and mastered at The Record Factory.
The 909 Boyz built a name for themselves in the Inland Empire, eventually going on to release a full-length album titled “Royal Flush” in 2000. Despite the group’s eventual disbandment, their self-titled EP remains a testament to their unique sound and place in West Coast hip-hop history.
