Description
“Be A Fan 4 Life” is the debut EP by rapper Young Jay from Hayward, California. Released in 1995 under Fan 4 Life Records, this project was exclusively available on cassette tape. The EP features six tracks that showcase Young Jay’s talent for combining gangsta-style hip-hop with engaging storytelling and catchy beats.
The EP is divided into two sides: Killa Side and Realla Side. Killa Side kicks off with an “Intro” followed by “Killa At Large,” a hard-hitting track that showcases Young Jay’s raw lyrical skills. “Trigga Man,” featuring vocals by Nathalie, further demonstrates Young Jay’s ability to deliver memorable verses over gritty beats.
Realla Side starts with another “Intro” before moving into “I’m Thankful For Mine,” a reflective track featuring vocals from Nici that highlights Young Jay’s gratitude for his life and achievements. The EP’s title track, “Be A Fan 4 Life,” features Shelly B and serves as an anthem for Young Jay’s loyal supporters.
Executive produced by Young Jay himself, “Be A Fan 4 Life” was produced, engineered, and mixed by Anthony “AK” Walker. As the writer, arranger, performer, and co-producer of all six tracks, Young Jay’s dedication to his craft is evident throughout the project.
“Be A Fan 4 Life” may have been Young Jay’s debut release, but it paved the way for his unique style and contributions to the gangsta hip-hop scene in the mid-90s.
