Description

Steady Mobb’n’s debut album, “Pre-Meditated Drama,” was released on May 6, 1997, on Bomb Shelter and No Limit Records. The album features 19 tracks, with production primarily handled by DJ Daryl, and collaborations with Master P, Fiend, Mystikal, C-Murder, and other artists from the No Limit roster.

The album is a quintessential representation of West Coast gangsta rap, showcasing Steady Mobb’n’s gritty street tales, hard-hitting beats, and dark, ominous production. Tracks like “It’s On,” “Animosity,” and “Blood Money” exemplify the album’s sinister sound, with haunting instrumentals and menacing lyrics.

Steady Mobb’n also incorporates elements of Southern hip-hop into their sound, evident in tracks like “West to South,” which features a star-studded lineup of No Limit artists, including C-Murder, Fiend, and Master P. The album’s lead single, “If I Could Change (Remix),” is a departure from the rest of the album, with a more introspective tone and a smoother instrumental.

Despite being Steady Mobb’n’s debut release on No Limit, “Pre-Meditated Drama” managed to achieve moderate success, peaking at number 6 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and at 29 on the Billboard 200. The album sold 74,000 copies in its first week, cementing Steady Mobb’n’s place in the West Coast rap scene.

Overall, “Pre-Meditated Drama” is a solid debut from Steady Mobb’n, showcasing the group’s unique blend of West Coast and Southern hip-hop, as well as their ability to craft engaging narratives of street life. The album remains a cult classic among fans of ’90s gangsta rap and a testament to the golden era of West Coast hip-hop.
