Description
“Life Threatnin’: Dawn of the Dead” is a rare release by rapper Street Soulga, whose real name is Levi Brailsford, hailing from Compton, California. This EP was released in 1994 by Blak Konrete Recordz, and it showcases the raw energy and gritty storytelling of mid-’90s Gangsta hip-hop.
The EP features six tracks, starting with “The Violence Initiative (To Be Continued),” followed by “Street Soulga,” “Street Life,” “Ghetto Stories,” and “Eye of the Storm.” The latter features guest appearances by Da Konvicted Felon and MC Ren. The final track on the EP is an instrumental version of “Ghetto Stories.” The EP served as a precursor to the upcoming album “Mortal Kombat.”
Producer Tootie was responsible for crafting the beats on the EP, while DJ Train provided the scratches. Levi Brailsford, a former football player at Paramount High School, transitioned to a career in music and joined the Compton-based producer Tootie’s Night Stawka Productions collective. As part of this collective, Brailsford worked on several West Coast Gangsta rap records in the mid-’90s.
