Description

“Sucker Free” is an exceptionally rare EP by the Oakland, California-based rap group 3-Deep, released in 1994 by From The Floor Up Records. This hidden gem features a blend of Gangsta and G-Funk styles, showcasing the group’s talent for crafting smooth, head-nodding beats and delivering hard-hitting, street-savvy lyrics. The EP’s distinct West Coast flavor is sure to captivate fans of 90s hip-hop.

The EP starts with “3 Deep Got The Bomb,” featuring Philly Mo, and immediately sets the tone for the rest of the record. Next up is the title track, “Sucka Free,” which features Peebah and serves as a potent anthem for staying true to oneself and avoiding fake friends. “For Da The 94′” keeps the energy high, followed by “Slippin,” a more introspective track that showcases the group’s ability to tackle a variety of themes.

“Funk From The ‘O'” features guest appearances from Clee Dogg and Peebah, providing listeners with a taste of Oakland’s unique hip-hop scene. The EP concludes with an instrumental version of “Sucka Free,” allowing fans to fully appreciate the production skills of Clee Dogg and co-producer Stan “The G Man” Keith.

“Sucker Free” was recorded at Find A Way Studios and mastered at Rocket Lab. The EP’s cover design is credited to Jay Alexander, with cover illustration by John Thomas. As a testament to its rarity, the EP was pressed by Disctronics USA, with only a limited number of copies produced.

Although “Sucker Free” may be a lesser-known release from the West Coast hip-hop scene, its combination of Gangsta and G-Funk styles, compelling lyrics, and top-notch production make it a must-listen for fans seeking a deeper dive into the music of the era.
