Description

“Life of a Criminal” is the debut studio album by Oakland, California rapper Pooh-Man, originally released in 1990 and reissued in 1992 by Dangerous Music, In-A-Minute Records, and Jive. This groundbreaking album showcases Pooh-Man’s raw and provocative storytelling, delving deep into the world of crime and life on the streets.

The album features eight tracks, including memorable songs like “Out To The B*tches,” “F**kin With Dank,” “Oakland,” “Explicit Lyrics,” “Life Of A Criminal,” “Black Man,” “Takin What Life Dishes Out,” and “Lex.” The production, helmed by Ant Banks and Pooh-Man himself, serves as a testament to the gritty and authentic sound of early 90s West Coast hip hop.

Born Lawrence Lee Thomas on January 25, 1969, Pooh-Man has been an influential figure in the rap industry since the early 1990s, releasing several albums across various labels, including Jive Records. His lyrics often focus on topics like sex, money, and murder. In addition to his music career, Pooh-Man also had a small role in the film Menace II Society, playing Doc.

His only charting album, 1992’s Funky as I Wanna Be, peaked at #158 on the Billboard Top 200, solidifying his presence in the hip-hop scene. However, in 2000, Thomas pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery and was sentenced to six years in prison, temporarily halting his music career.
