Description

“The Album” is the debut release by rap duo DGSB from Hayward, California, released on September 21, 1995, under Rayclo Records. Showcasing a unique blend of G-Funk and Gangsta rap styles, the album features 15 tracks, presenting a fresh sound that captures the essence of the West Coast hip-hop scene in the mid-90s.

The album kicks off with the infectious “Hootchie Love,” setting the tone for the smooth, groove-oriented tracks to follow. Songs like “Keep It On,” “In The Summer Breeze,” and “Gigolo’s” showcase DGSB’s ability to create memorable hooks and catchy beats that will have listeners nodding their heads. “Slow It Down” and “Let Me Groove You” demonstrate the duo’s talent for crafting laid-back, smooth tunes that contrast well with the harder-edged tracks on the album.

“Maximum Dollar, Maximum Risk” and “All In The Game” explore the darker side of street life, while tracks like “Six Jimmy Hats” and “Funkin With No Protection” offer a lighter, more humorous take on various subjects. The album’s title track, “D.G.S.B.,” serves as a declaration of the group’s identity and purpose in the hip-hop scene.

The production, handled primarily by Shaun Bivens, is top-notch, providing a cohesive sound throughout the album. A&R by Terrance Hatter and executive production by Trenten Gumbs ensure that “The Album” stands out in the crowded world of 90s hip-hop.

With a mix of head-bopping beats, smooth grooves, and engaging lyrics, “The Album” is an essential listen for fans of G-Funk, Gangsta rap, and West Coast hip-hop.
