Description
“The Lyrical Midget” is the debut studio album by rapper Lil’ Mac from New Orleans, Louisiana. The album was released in 1990 by Yo! Records. The album is considered one of the earliest commercial hip-hop albums to come out of New Orleans.
The album features Lil’ Mac’s unique style of rapping, which is characterized by his high-pitched voice and fast flow. The beats on the album are produced by New Orleans producer Mannie Fresh, who would go on to become one of the most influential producers in Southern hip-hop.
The album features 12 tracks, including “I Need Wheels,” “Young And Embarrassed,” “Cleo,” and the title track “Lyrical Midget.” The lyrics on the album focus on Lil’ Mac’s experiences growing up in New Orleans, and cover themes such as love, loss, and street life.
Despite being released independently on Yo! Records, the album gained a cult following and helped establish Lil’ Mac as a prominent rapper in the New Orleans hip-hop scene. Later on, Lil’ Mac changed his stage name to Mac and signed to Master P’s No Limit Records, where he released several successful albums as both a solo artist and as a member of the 504 Boyz rap group.
